A flat iron will also work great when you don’t have a regular curling iron. Step 1: Gather Materials To give your short hair some curls using a flat iron, you’ll need: * A comb * Hairspray * A flat iron It’s best to use a flat iron that is thin. Thicker flat irons will make it difficult to get into the roots and bevel the hair. Step 2: Prepare the Hair Start on one side of the head and section off the hair into a thin strip. Don’t make the sections any wider than your flat iron. Thin sections will give you better control when curling hair. Spray each section with the hairspray before you start curling it. Hold the spray can about 10 to 12 inches away from the head so that it doesn’t clump on the hair. Step 3: Start Curling Take a section of hair and clamp the flat iron at the roots. Start pulling the iron down the hair, but bevel it towards and away from the face. Do this by rounding the iron with your hand, to make the hair curl in the direction you want. You can also start the curls closer to the bottom of the hair to add different shapes. Try using vertical sections to give your curls different sizes.
